# Hey I’m moving into a different room in my house. All my plants are…

Hey I’m moving into a different room in my house. All my plants are in a south facing window. I’m moving to a room with a north facing window. Is that enough light or do I need grow lights?

I kind of feel like you’re probably going to need grow lights, depending on what kinds of plants you have and what kind of light they are used to. South facing windows tend to get a lot of direct sunlight. Do you know what the light is like in the new room?

I agree with adding grow lights. If it were any other direction window you were moving them to you might be able to get away with it, but going from a south to a north will be a drastic change in light.

It depends on what plants you have

are you in the northern or southern hemisphere? what plants do you have? in the north hemisphere a south facing window is going to have a lot of bright direct light but in the southern hemisphere the northern window will have considerably more light. it also really depends what plants you have and whether there is anything blocking the light through the window

I live in the northern hemisphere. And I have a lot of pothos, philodendrons, spider plants, plants like that. And I have nothing blocking either window.

since those are all shade-tolerant plants, they should be fine with the transition to a darker space, provided they’re placed a bit closer to the window. for example, if your spider plant was 5 feet back from the south window, a foot or so back from the north window should be comparably bright, as long as it still gets bright, indirect sunlight most of the day.
if you notice anyone getting lanky (increased inter-nodal space on your pothos and philodendrons, or thin, pale leaves on your spider plant) a grow light might be a good idea.
