_Publicado por Nanny el 2025-08-14_

Hi my Calathea is growing however she has a lot of brown on edges of her leaves. Even a new leaf has the brown on it.
I water her now with distilled water because I read they do not like tap water.
I am following the app’s directions however I am reaching out for human advice. Thank you!

Is it possible she’s getting too much direct sunlight at all?

Thanks! She is in a window that is bright not too much direct sunlight. I will try anything to get the leaves from turning brown.

It could be any of several issues. First would be, could it be a humidity problem? They require high humidity. Second would be soil. Are you letting it dry out about 50% between watering. And soil should be airy, and chunky. Not peat heavy. Just my opinion of what may be causing the problem. My experience is that I have several thriving calatheas.

Thanks! It’s in the same pot I purchased her in. I do let her dry out but maybe too much? I use a soil meter to test it.
I just changed to the distilled water. She has grown quite a bit since purchase.

How long have you had the plant? Calathea’s can be temperamental and take some trial and error. It’s great you changed to distilled water. If you don’t have a humidifier, I’d get one (or find other ways to increase humidity. I agree with Phil about watering. They don’t like to go all the way dry.

I have had her about 6 months. She is temperamental for sure. Lol I do have a humidifier and will try it. Thanks!
