# I have this lovely Lipstick plan and I want to help her grow better!…

_Posted by Angel07 on 2026-07-19_

I have this lovely Lipstick plan and I want to help her grow better! I have some leggy vines and a lot of new growth a the ends. Not a lot on top. How can I help her grow and be more full? Also should I support her by helping her climb along the window with clips?

I would chop and prop, and then repot the props in the top to make it fuller! Make sure the whole plant is getting sunlight as well

Ok! How much light do you suggest?

Apologies for the late addition to this thread, but I saw your sunlight question wasn’t answered. I’ve found mine really loves a south-facing windowsill, so especially if you chopped and propagated it, it’ll likely develop more roots and branches with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight. Now that we’re starting to lose our daylight hours, I’d recommend tucking it under a grow light if you can, in case your windowsills start getting too cold in the coming months. I’ve tried propagating mine quite a few times to gift pieces to friends, and found cutting it and removing 2-3 rows of leaves so there’s plenty of nodes to work with, giving it a few hours to callous over, then dipping it into rooting hormone powder and using a wooden skewer to form a deep hole to gently stick the cutting right back into the pot has worked the best for me. Hope this helps if you’re still having any trouble with this plant 😅

I’ve also found that giving my lipstick plant a trim tends to promote some very quick branching, which tends to lead to a lot more flower buds forming soon after. Nematanthus and Aeschynanthus seem to fill out much faster just from a few haircuts every 3-6 months than a regular chop and prop does, but sticking the props you cut directly back into the original plant’s pot makes it a lot easier to transition into the plant than risking shock from propagating it in its own pot and transplanting it into the pot of the original plant later. If she’s still a little bald-headed, I’d try giving her another trim 😉
