Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone could tell if this pot is a good size or if it’s too big just judging by the size of the plant. I feel like the pot may be too big but the roots are soooo long so I’m not sure :(

Is the plant not doing ok ? It looks good . I just water around the plant itself if I feel the pot is too big

It had a lot of gnats in it and I just pulled off a whole leaf today. It was brown on the bottom and just came off 😭 it wasn’t even yellow but it was super wilty. And the newest leaf is super fragile and wilty. The pot was WAY too big. I put it in an 8 inch pot. Hopefully it doesn’t go into shock and 💀. I don’t know how to leave the plants alone I fear

And the old pot had tiny tiny holes. The new 8 in one is the same kind but I just cut slits like how the clear orchid pots look and the water is draining nicely it seems. I guess time will tell

Some plants like smaller pots if you think about it the bigger the pot the more moisture it will retain \& leads to root rot . So smaller = moisture goes to the plant \& excess runs out .

Thank you!

As for fungus gnats I feel like it comes with plant life even when watering properly because chances are there is at least 1 prob child . Maybe look into systemic insect control the plant drinks it in with the water \& basically makes the plant poisonous to pests once they eat off it .

you only want a pot that’s 1-2 inches in diameter bigger than the whole rootball. if you feel the plant is still remaining too wet in between waters you could a) put it in more sunlight or b) mix things like orchid bark or perlite in with your potting soil to help increase drainage

I did that mix and it still was feeling like it was always wet. So I downpotted it. I have a grow light for it as well

Thank you everyone for all the advice. I’m so new lol and I’m scared they won’t survive but I think they’ll be okay !!!

Any idea how long this plant has been growing from its bulb? I know people often advise to err on the side of larger pots, especially if it’s being planted (activated?) in spring or early summer with these guys. If you have reason to believe it’s still sending out its first set of roots for the season and sizing up leaves then I’d be less inclined to size down and more would just encourage plenty of light and watering the area around the plant
