# Newish plant parent here🙋‍♀️ I recently purchased a Hoya insularis…

Newish plant parent here🙋‍♀️ I recently purchased a Hoya insularis and a Monstera Burle Marks flame. They are both potted in what looks like chunky coco coir to me. I’m not exactly sure if this is ideal for them. One of them was clearly a baby and they started it this way, the other was a larger plant. Trying to figure out if I need to transplant them to a different medium? They’re both doing OK right now but eventually I feel like they’re going to need a different pot situation. I feel like the Monstera needs a better watering set up. It is also in a self watering pot, which I don’t like, but I got it from Lowe’s. It seems to dry up rather quickly right now and the leaves get curled like they don’t have enough water, I have it in an East facing window. Any suggestions appreciated!

I am also fairly new to plants something that has helped me is to look up YouTube videos on your plant your trying to care for. If someone’s making a YouTube video on a plant especially how to repot or propagate the plant they are going to give you all the information you will ever need to know about it

I have a few Hoyas and also the Monstera Burle Marx. Hoyas like to dry out. I also started using fertilizer every time I water them, I think every maybe 15 days or so. I always repot after a few days after purchasing when I get anything from a big box store because of infestations. I put my monstera in a chunky soil mix it’s doing fine. A new leaf is slowly starting to form.

It definitely doesn’t appear to have any kind of nutrients so I would personally pot them up in better soil.
