# Y’all! I think I found a mealy bug creeping around my philodendron!…

_Publié par Amy le 2024-07-03_

Y’all! I think I found a mealy bug creeping around my philodendron! It wasn’t ON it but near enough. It had spider mites in late spring. I’m wondering if the extreme heat is making it more susceptible to pests…
Should I bring it inside for a while? The a/c runs all day, as it is 96o in the shade around here. Obviously not under a vent and I should mention I don’t have great lighting in my house at all.
Any suggestions?

EDIT: I just found this praying mantis in there. That’s probably a good thing, right? Will they eat mealy bugs?

Yeah I don’t worry too much about pests on outdoor plants. When a plant has pests, it will send out a hormonal signal to beneficial bugs! Basically saying “hey come get this meal (and help me out)!” This will prompt spiders or insects that eat that pest to take care of it.

Still keep an eye on it for sure, but you don’t have to worry as much compared to your indoor plants.

Praying mantis, ladybugs, common spiders and other beneficial insects will keep the ‘bad’ bugs away including mealybugs. My spider mites issues cleared up when I moved my plants outside for spring. I have lots of tree frogs and lizards

Hmm. Well, it seems to be my outdoor caladium that battle the spider mites. I don’t know what else to do but spray with neem oil once a week.
