I’ve been checking on how to water my syngonium, and even though Planta says it’s a medium drinker, you know not too much, not too little… I’ve been told by other members that syngoniums actually like to be fairly dry before you water them. I had been trying to follow Planta’s advice, but my syngonium had a number of leaves turn yellow; at the time, I couldn’t understand why, until I learned this. Maybe this info will save you some yellow leaves on your syngonium. Good luck!

They thrive in bright indirect light, higher humidity, warm temperatures and regular fertilizing. I have several that I fertilize every two weeks with 50% diluted liquid fertilizer. I use Miracle Gro with SuperThrive liquid plant vitamins added to the water.

Let them dry out, having a slightly limp appearance, before watering regardless of the Planta watering schedule. Planta’s watering schedule is generic. It can’t anticipate all the variables in your specific environment. So, over watering and under watering can occur when strictly following the watering schedule without verifying the plant actually needs water.

Syngoniums are tree climbers. They flourish on a moss pole. But, do well in a hanging basket. My photo shows the pink perfection and neon robusta with all the propagations. They both have bamboo support sticks. But, they outgrew them rather quickly. 🪴🍀

This is great information I’ll be doing all of this! The only difference is I do fertilize my plants every watering organically with fish tank water. Thank you soo much

WOW! Your syngoniums are gorgeous! Since mine gets some direct late afternoon sun, do you think this is a problem? Would my syngonium do better if it were in shade rather than partial afternoon sun? TIA!

They can take early morning and late afternoon sun since the sun is less intense at those times. My covered patio protects them from the midday sun. So, your plants should be fine with the afternoon sun as long it’s not burning the leaves.

She's gorgeous! Like Lynda and Sunny said, the key to happy Syngoniums is letting them dry out between waterings. I had to snooze my water alerts frequently until Planta finally adjusted and stopped trying to get me to water the poor things every other day lol

My arrowheads are still rather small (2.5" pot and 3" pot) but once they're a bit bigger, they'll be getting coco coir poles. I'm fine with them not growing as big if it means I'm not feeding into the destruction of the environment (moss isn't a sustainable resource, so I avoid using it as much as possible). The coco coir still allows them to climb like they would in nature and it's lower maintenance than moss.

I do want to add a caution for your plant keeping in general: I would be very careful using fish tank water. It's not a comprehensive fertilizer and the imbalance of nutrients can lead to problems with your plants like fertilizer burn or them not getting all the nutrients they need to grow properly (ask me how I know 😭)

I've switched to watering my outdoor garden beds with the fish tank water and use a liquid fertilizer for my indoor plants and I really think everyone appreciates the change. My indoor plants are thriving and everyone that sees my house wants to know the secret to my insane front garden (and no one believes me when I tell them the secret is fish poop lol!)

Thank you so much for this information! I’ve had a lot of trouble finding a suitable water soluble fertilizer. Do you have any recommendations?

#### Hayley ha risposto il 2025-05-19

Right now I'm using this fertilizer and I really like it! I dilute it down to 25% strength for regular watering and full strength when Planta tells me it's time to fertilize. Just make sure you shake it really well and put it in your watering vessel before you add the water

This is the plant fertilizer I use, Plant Juice by Elm Dirt. You can purchase this online at Amazon. Notice that it is Amazon‘s favorite overall pick, and that in itself, says something. But the important thing is it really helps your plants to grow and flourish. Try it, and I know you and your plants will love it! (I know, I sound like an advertisement, but this fertilizer is really great!)
