Does anyone know what this plant is? I got it at Lowe’s and it wasn’t labeled I tried the plant scanner but I keep getting different results! Sometimes says alocasia, elephant ear, and philodendron! Thank you!

It’s an elephant ear, but they are classified into two groups: alocasia and colocasia. Alocasia leaves typically point upwards and colocasia leaves point downwards. Although since it’s young I can’t really tell which group it belongs in, someone else might know. I want to say it’s an alocasia macrorrhiza though.

Thank you so much! I also just noticed a root coming up - should I repot now or wait till spring? Sorry

No problem, hopefully that helped you! I hear you’re not supposed to repot plants in the winter time but I don’t think it’s the end of the world if you do. If I were you I would repot it within the next week or two, because it seems to be very happy and has grown beautifully (thus the root coming up). But since you just got it, let it acclimate in your home before you do that. As always repot it in a pot that’s about 2in wider than the one that it’s in and I’d do a 50:50 mix of potting soil and perlite.

It’s an alocasia giant taro, whenever you decide to repot I recommend using an aroid soil mix. They are easily succeptable to root rot, they also like warm temps, higher humidity and bright indirect light
