Not sure what’s going on with my Imperial Red. Any help would be great, I lost the newest leaf in the back (R side).

Do you happen to have any photos of the newest leaf that you lost? If you stick your finger a couple inches into the soil, is it wet, damp, or dry?

Based on this photo and the fact that you lost a new leaf, my guess is that it’s dealing with a little bit of overwatering. Totally normal issue to have happen! Signs of overwatering can include leaves that turn yellow and develop brown spots/edges too, new leaves dropping off, oldest leaves turning yellow and/or brown, leaves that feel softer/wetter to the touch, fungus gnats, and/or the soil being damp to the touch.

If it is overwatering, it’s not necessarily your fault, either. I’ve noticed that overwatering tends to happen if one follows Planta’s watering schedule without checking that the soil is dry enough first. I wish Planta was better at telling users HOW to check that the plant needs water vs simply saying “water now.” The algorithm isn’t perfect and often tells me to water my plants before they’re actually ready, so I have to check the soil first using a chopstick or toothpick to make sure it’s dried out enough before watering again. For philodendrons, I generally like to be sure that the soil is 50-75% dry before watering again.

If it is overwatering, you may need to check on/treat the roots for root rot. Just in case, here’s how I do that:
-Take the plant out of its pot and remove as much soil from the roots as I can without damaging the roots. Soaking the rootball in room temper water for 20-60 minutes first helps the soil come off more easily. Old paintbrushes are also great at removing dirt without hurting roots.
-Inspect thoroughly for brown, dead, mushy, and/or rotted roots and prune them with clean, sterilized scissors (I just spray with 70% rubbing alcohol first).
-Once you’ve removed the infected/dead roots, spray the remaining roots with 3% hydrogen peroxide. You can also briefly dunk them in a bowl of it instead. Just make sure the bottle shows that it’s diluted to 3%. This will prevent the spread of any remaining fungal/bacterial issues.
-Repot into clean, fresh soil. make sure it’s super well-draining and that the new pot is only 1-2 inches bigger than the size of the root ball.
-Avoid watering for a few hours in order to let the roots callous over first, if watering is needed at all.

Mine did the same thing late Fall and I never pinpointed the issue. I suspect the soil stayed wet for too long but when I pulled it out everything think looked a-ok. I chose to repot it to be on the safe side, giving it a chunkier mix. It stayed dormant until just last month and it’s no pushing out big healthy leaves.

Thank you all for your input. Planta was telling me over watering but I wasn’t sure. I have self-watering plants and I will say that this pot compared to my others is more moist. I’ll give her a look. Thanks again!
