# How do I save this lovely plant? I just moved to a new flat and this…

_Gepostet von Rory am 2024-07-15_

How do I save this lovely plant?
I just moved to a new flat and this plant was here. The soil is very wet, but I don’t know if maybe they watered it before I came. So I’m not sure if they watered it too much it too little. Should I transplant to a new pot?
Please help me saving it!

Thanks!!🙏

If it’s wet all the way through give it a bright location but not direct sunlight on the leaves and let it dry most of the way through before watering again. I use a chopstick to tell how far down inside the pot is still moist.

I think I would definitely take it out of the pot and smell the soil if it’s not rotten bit more. If everything looks good in the dirt and the roots, I would definitely put it in a sunny type location and maybe put a paper towel underneath it to pull out some of that extra moisture. I’m not sure what type of plant it is so you don’t know if you want to throw it in.

Completely agree with Ji11 and Rhona here. If the roots are rotted, definitely say so in the comments and I can walk you through how to treat it (roots should be light in color and firm. They’re rotted if they’re dark and mushy). Is your plant a ficus elastica?

I agree. I would check the roots and if good, replace some dry soil so it is not overwatered.
