Any recommendations for plants that thrive in shaded areas?

Golden pothos can survive in very shady conditions. I have one that’s thriving in my windowless bathroom without a grow light. I just leave the overhead light on most of the day.

Zz plants do well in shaded environments.

Hi, Mrs. Green Fingers!

I’m not sure if you’re talking about shade like a bright outdoor patio or shade as in a room that has very little light.

Plants that do well in most lighting environments (low and bright indirect light) are the zz plant, snake plant, and pothos. I wouldn’t go lower than 200-400 foot candles though to make sure they have enough light to turn into energy and grow.

For reference, I have a scindapsus pictus in my north facing kitchen window. It does appear pretty bright with a large window, but it’s only about 180-500 foot candles depending on the time of day.

You can also supplement low light areas with a grow light.

For variegated plants, you’ll want to give them more light. Otherwise, they will do just fine but likely lose the pretty variegation.
