# Plant friends: Looking for guidance \& help. This guy is not doing…

Plant friends: Looking for guidance \& help. This guy is not doing well. Leaves are turning yellow and wilting. Tips are brown. Soil is damp, but does not stick to finger. Top soil is dry.  
What do I do? Thank you for your tips!

Just wanted to confirm if this is a majesty palm? If so, when was the last fertilizing? It’s about to be spring, so it might be time to fertilize. If the soil is damp, maybe it’s lighting? Is it somewhere in low light? If so, then maybe move closer to a window where it can get bright indirect light. Might also want to check the humidity too, if you haven’t yet.

Also to follow up, you can do a soil test to see if the soil is leaning more acidic or alkaline and that can help you decide if you need to fertilize. Just google “how to test soil acidity/alkalinity without a test” there’s a good guide on The Spruce that will take you through the steps
