Congrats! Hot tip: I always google the name of the plant along with “best soil mix” and it will give a recipe that’s best for that plant. I buy the individual soil ingredients and mix my own, tailoring it to each specific plant.

Agreed with above! My favorite go to mix that works well for a lot of my plants is a mix of indoor potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark! Pretty much equal parts. For plants that prefer a chunkier soil, I’ll increase the orchid bark ratio!

One lesson learned from doing it wrong: google the type of plant and see if they require good drainage. Ive learned that adding perlite to the mix helps improve drainage. Which plant is it? One other thing I did very wrong the first time is messing with the rootball. So watching a video on youtube on how to do this correctly is necessary and recommended!

Be gentle with the roots, try not to break them. It can really shock your plant

Get a pot only two inches bigger than the one it’s in now. If the pot is too big it could stress the plant and maybe kill it. And very gently massage the roots if they are super root bound so it can stretch out and grow more! Yes, be careful with roots but if you break one it’s got going to kill your plant. This is also a time you can inspect the roots.
