How do I know if I need a bigger pot? This is a Thanksgiving Cactus. I can see fine roots (I think that's what it is) on top of the soil. Is that a sign? Roots are showing on the bottom, which I've read is an indicator.

i would recommend squeezing the pot gently from all sides until the rootball is loose, then lift the plant out by the base of the stem and check its root system. if there’s more roots than soil it’s time to repot.
if you click “more information” on your repotting task, planta will provide more detailed steps for checking if the plant needs repotting and repotting itself.

Definitely sounds ready for a repot! These guys like larger pots in my experience, with lots of room to grow and put on tons of leaves! Roots showing out the bottom indicates that it is root bound. Like the previous comment said, gently squeeze the plastic cup to get it out.

The soil still looks full of organic material, so for repotting I’d keep the remaining soil it still has and just put it in a bigger pot with additional soil. Squeeze the root ball before repotting to loosen it and get some air in there. Roots may belong underground, but they love having access to air flow! That’s why you want loose soil! Cactus/succulent soil is the best for these guys.

That’s all I can really think to add to this discussion, best of luck to you and your chlorophyll baby!!
