# Had this fiddle leaf for about a year and a half. Was doing really…

_Publié par Haelee le 2024-06-18_

Had this fiddle leaf for about a year and a half. Was doing really well until 2 months ago these brown spots started on one leaf and spread. Since that time I’ve added a grow light and have had some new growth as seen on top. I’ve been told I need to prune off all these leaves with spots but am so nervous to do so. I’ve trimmed about 10 or so off. Should I do it in stages? All at once? Any tips and tricks appreciated.

I did some quick googling and it’s probably overwatering and/or some type of infection (fungal, bacterial, pest). Because the new leaves are so
Healthy, I’m leaning towards infection.

Typical remedy would be to remove all the affected leaves and spray with a fungicide outside and let it air out a bit. If you’re up for it, I’d check the roots to see how they’re doing, if there’s root rot, or if the soil seems wet. Good luck!

Thank you! How can you tell if it’s root rot? I have noticed a few mushrooms come up above the soil but per google that seemed okay 😬

Generally, healthy roots are yellowish and distinct. Rotted roots are dark and mushy and blend into the soil. And they smell rotten.

Overwatered when figs get these dark splotches. It’s a form or guttation

Try watering less. I wouldn’t chop them all at once. FLFs strongly dislike sudden changes. Maybe a few every month if their discoloration continues.

I was told by many to just prune them all off so unfortunately I already removed them 😕 I hope it does okay!
