For me I always do I rinse the roots until clean and then peroxide, but idk 100% if this is right but my friend taught me that lol. And my plants do great !

If the roots are super duper dense and the soil is hard/compacted, then I’ll VERY carefully remove as much soil as I can to break up the root ball and remove the old soil. However, (at least for your monstera,) I’d say what you did in this case is good! The roots aren’t too dense to begin with, so they should spread out to the new soil :)

Thank you! And i agree, I’m more worried about the snake plant, but I’ll monitor it for a week if i see anything wrong ill think about taking out of the pot again and slightly breaking up the root ball, hopefully i won’t need to 😭

I recommend leaving to avoid adding more stress.

No need to break up the roots. Monstera roots are vigorous and will grow out. Snake plants like a tight pot. They thrive when the pot is full with plants and roots. I only break up the roots when propagating the plant.

Breaking roots can also cause damage to the plant because the broken areas are susceptible to infections and damaged roots impact the growth of the plant. I would only break up the roots if the plants are yellowing due to being root bound or I need to remove all the soil (due to over watering causing rot, poor soil mix, etc.).🪴🍀

THANK YOU!!!!!!! i was also thinking this as well 🙏🏽🙏🏽, i was actually happy that the root balls were intact cause it caused minimal stress hopefully when i moved it haha
