Help! My Monkey Mask is turning pale/yellow.

I bought a Monkey Mask a few weeks ago and noticed some webs, so I treated it with neem oil spray. Since finishing the treatment, all the leaves have started turning really pale or yellow. A lot went completely yellow, and I've already had to cut them off.

I thought maybe root rot was the cause, so I repotted it, but the roots actually looked perfectly fine.

The last picture was what it looked like when I got it.

What is wrong with it, and what should I do now? Any advice to save it would be amazing!

I’m sorry that happened. I’ll be sure not to use neem oil on mine!!

I’ve used the spray on so many plants and they’re all fine but this one has definitely taken a bad turn. I can’t really be sure if it’s the neem or not, but it is unfortunate.

Could be root burn maybe?

Maybe from when I repotted it I made it worse but before I repotted it the yellowing was already pretty bad so I’m not sure what would have caused it then if that makes sense. Can the neem spray do that to the roots in the soil?

I will start by saying, I cannot grow a monkey mask to save my life! So bravo for getting the plant that big and healthy to start with. I don’t have for sure answers. But I will say I don’t love neem oil. It seems to be too heavy for some plants and puts a coating on it and makes it hard for them to breathe. Also, if your plant receives sunlight before all of the neem oil is dry it can also cause issues. I use a time based spray that works super well and I spray all of my plants a little bit every time I water to prevent or kill anything that’s on them.

Thank you! What’s the spray you use? That sounds promising!

This is the one I’m using. Seems to be helping with all of my issues and it smells fabulous! This is not the concentrate. They do offer a concentrate for $99 that you can divide up into several bottles though.

If the webs are close to the stem and in the leaf axles you probably have mites but if the webs are just spread out it's probably just a regular spider. If you have mites a regular pesticide will not be effective. You need something that includes a mitacid. Both bringing it to a new environment and transplanting it could cause it some shock. When you transplanted it did you use a pot that has drain holes? Very important to have drain holes. If it continues to yellow you might consider cutting a good portion of it off and letting it flush out with fresh foliage. No guarantees but if the roots are strong it should not be a problem.

Thank you for all the help! Is there something you would recommend with mitacid?

Then why write???!

If the neem oil spray was too thick it’ll kill the plant. I’ve had a syngonium die because of neem oil being on its leaves

I think it’s fine to use Neem Oil on this plant. I have one that I Neem monthly and it doesn’t seem to bother. I am sure to just do a light spray opposed to fully covering it.

I’d keep an eye for spider mites. Check the openings within the leaves on as many as you can. Double check the back sides as well as that’s where they’ll usually be.

After all that if no mites, maybe overwatering? Good luck!!

Agree with kingbetes-might just be overwatering.

Also, I was using “ sexy plant juice” that I learned about here and then watched a video about it on YouTube. The need oil was supposed to be diluted and I mixed with two other ingredients. It didn’t bother any Plants.
