is this direct window light (west facing) too bright for the tineke rubber plant?

I don’t think so. I have a ficus elastica belize in my south windowsill and a ficus elastica burgundy in my north windowsill, and both are doing great. They’re often touted as low light plants, but I was recommended by a user on this app to put it in a south window, as they also do very well in brighter light, similar to peperomia, but happen to tolerate low-light conditions as well. Hope this helps! You’ve got a beautiful Tineke!

thanks so much for all the advice, super helpful! do you mist them or just let it be?

I don’t mist them. If you want to add a humidifier in the room they’re in, that could be helpful, but I don’t mist any of my plants. That can attract pests or lead to sunburn if the leaves get too wet on hot days. I live in PA, so it’s naturally pretty humid except for in the winter, but added a humidifier in the winter or if you live in a low humidity environment is a good idea 👍

All mine are in a west facing window and thriving! I do have some filter curtains that I close on the SUPER hot days just to minimize sunburn, but thats mostly for other plants I have in that window.

No, you don’t need to mist.

good to know, have also been putting the filtered blinds on w this heat wave since i was worried they’d burn

Not sure where you’re located, I’m in SW Canada and we haven’t been in a heat wave recently. But if we’re 30+ then my drapes are usually closed (if that’s helpful). But again, my rubber trees aren’t my concern when doing that. I’m sure they’d be fine if they were the only ones in that spot.

it’s unlikely that your plants will truly burn in a window — especially if they’re newer, windows filter out the UV. more sensitive leaves than these rubber trees might bleach or get crispy tips, but they likely won’t actually burn

east or west facing are great spots for your tineke 👍😎

I do mist and they seem to love it 🤷🏽‍♀️. I have a burgundy and a peperomia. I don’t put a lot of water but more like a spritz.
