Are you looking for ones that need lower light AND ones for your sun room, or part-sun, part-shade plants that can survive being in a full sun room? Just thought I’d ask for clarification before I recommend anything

lower light AND sunroom! Most of my plants are currently in the sunroom because it is a south facing window… which i’m okay with because of aesthetics lol but i just need other spaces filled…my other window options in other rooms are east.

Thanks for the quick response! Got it! So for east and south-facing windows:

East-facing:
\- Peperomias. I love them. The caperatas thrive in lower light, even a north-facing window that only gets 2-4 hours of sun. The thicker-leaved varieties (obtusifolia and clusiifolia) can handle south facing windows if they’re gradually introduced to brighter light. All my obtusifolias are in my south windowsills now, and my caperatas are in my north windows. They’re very beginner friendly once they’re put in well-draining soil and if they’re kept fairly snug in their pots. They’re non-toxic to cats and dogs and they come in A TON of colors and patterns between all the cultivars. They’re also typically pretty cheap. I usually don’t see them for more than $15 where I live, with most of them around $7-9 at my favorite nursery
\- Hoyas. Very popular these days. If you can find one in a box store like Home Depot or Lowe’s for cheap, I would get one. They can get pretty pricy even in small sizes at nurseries because certain cultivars are VERY coveted rn. I’m never to those, but highly recommend checking out the Hoya Hoarders group here if you’re interested in looking into them.
\- Goldfish plants and lipstick plants. Again, if you can find one in good condition at a box store, it’ll probably be cheaper there than a nursery. They’ve got really cool flowers and I highly recommend simply googling them to see what the flowers look like.

South-facing:
\- JADES. I might be a tad biased on this one, cause they account for like half of my collection at the moment, but they are awesome plants, especially for beginners. And they can live for decades. There’s a couple different types to choose from, but my three favorites are the classic crassula ovata, variegated crassula ovata, and the crosby’s compact cultivar. They’re one of my go-to plants to recommend to anyone new to plants, with peperomias being my other go-to. The trick is to keep them fairly snug in their pots and make sure they’re in well-draining cactus mix. DO NOT use miracle grow for this plant (and I wouldn’t recommend their soil for any plants, personally. It’s just not well-draining enough). I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent mix for jades, peperomias, and pretty much any succulent.
\- holiday cactus. There’s the false-Christmas cactus, Christmas cactus, and Easter Cactus. They all flower, they’re all commonly sold in box stores and nurseries during the holidays, and they can live for decades if well taken care of. They’re epiphytic plants like peperomias are, so the key with them is to put them in well-draining soil. I’d opt for Espoma’s Cactus mix again here for this one.
\- sedum morganianum or sedum burrito. Super easy trailing plant. Just bottom-water it and it will thank you.
\- kleinia petraea. Super underrated easy care trailing plant. I’ve had two and I love mine. She’s very low-maintenance. Not very popular, but that thankfully tends to make it pretty cheap at my local nurseries if they sell them. Great pick for macrame/crochet hangers.

More full-sun lovers:
\- Faucaria tigrina. Not super popular, but a very fun choice. Keep the leaves dry and bottom-water it. They flower! The flowers kinda look like dandelions.
\- Aloes and Haworthias. Fantastic starter plants for beginners that thrive on neglect. Most cacti and succulents need to completely dry out between waterings. These two in particular are great for creating pups, or offspring, very quickly, so it’s a nice plant that can make plants on its own that you can gift to friends and family. Lots of different types, but if I had to pick a few favorites, aloe zanzibarica, Aloe juvenna, aloe Minnie Belle, and jeweled aloe/aloe distans.
\- Bear paw cactus/cotyledon orbiculata. They’re so stinking cute. And fuzzy. I spent 2 years trying to find myself one and finally found one, but if you find one at your nursery in good condition, they are adorable little cacti, and can produce beautiful red and yellow flowers. I kinda have a thing for cacti that can’t prick you but retain the low-maintenance needs of other cacti.
