# Can anyone tell me what Houseplants like to move outdoors in summer?…

_Posted by Ceilidhontherun on 2024-07-28_

Can anyone tell me what Houseplants like to move outdoors in summer? Is there a good place to find this out? I live in zone 6b with a fairly short season for gardening. But, after moving all my herbs out to the deck, I’d love to move more (like my umbrella trees).

you can move your umbrella but definitely do it VERY gradually especially this far into the summer. Ideally you’d start moving them out in early May for 6b and on a shady day — never move them from inside to immediate full sun or they’ll burn

Thankyou! I have a pretty shady side of my deck that only gets very early morning then late afternoon/evening sun which is where I’d considered moving them

Also, if we still get frost warnings in mid June, would I wait until then? Or just bring them in whenever temps are going drop below a certain degree?

frost in mid june 6b!? I’m in 6b that doesn’t happen where I am in NEPA — but in that case, assuming it’s rare I would just bring them in if you get a freak frost warning.

Sounds like a good spot but I would stick with full shade initially — a day or three — the morning/evening sun could still be a big shock coming from indoors

You can also use layers of window screening to be extra careful, but that always sounds like a hassle to me lol

I’m in Nova Scotia, Canada. We used to be considered zone 5-6 but … climate change
