Gnats can travel between plants and the issue will recover faster if they’re forced to stay within their plant. Also water with 1:1 isopropyl alcohol and water, but you might want to double check on that ratio. I break a dunk in half, toss it in my 1 gallon watering can and let it soak for at least overnight then water my plants with the “tea”. I continue with this for every water for all my plants until the knats disappear. The dunk is good until it completely breaks up, then I toss in another half. I also use sticky traps to catch the adults. I’ve found this combo works really well, and the mosquito dunks are easy to find and pretty cheep (Lowe’s, Home Depot, Amazon). I wouldn’t use the mosquito dunks in any plants grown in straight water. However, I don’t think the knats lay eggs in just water like mosquitos do. Another consideration (a theory for one of my plants ) is maybe the plant is getting root rot and that’s why they keep coming back. But I’m definitely trying the dunk technique for my open garden bed! I removed all my plants from their soil, chopped all the roots, and rerooted everything in water. I ended up switching most of my plants to semi hydro and only recently started using soil again on some of my plants.
