so… is there any way to get my orchid to survive? it’s leaves are very healthy, just a bit of damage in some spots from direct sun contact when i was a little careless.

please leave any tips for reviving it and repotting it!!!

it used to be in a glass jar with a mix of large/small rocks and dirt, which i saw as a rec for them but am now thinking it isn’t good enough.

Yikes, those roots are pretty bad.

Your only option at this point is to cut off everything dead/rotted/rotting. Even if that means you end up cutting everything off.

I would probably put it into water after so I can closely monitor its root growth. If it bounces back and grows roots I would then plant it in an orchid specific mix in a insert pot that has tons of holes. Rock \& soil isn’t going to be a good choice. It won’t allow enough air flow and will hold too much moisture causing root rot.

Orchid roots are like sponges, so they like a good hit of water, absorb a bunch, and then drain away all the rest.

Your orchid doesn’t look the best, but no harm in trying to save it!

Thank you so much. Right now, im soaking it in hot (warm) water to see if any of the roots will bounce back? I’ll check in a few hours then begin the cutting. I don’t have much experience with this; do I just cut them at the base and put it in water almost like a propagation?

Exactly. There are good examples if you do a bit of googling for orchids in water. You want it so its not getting into any leaves.

You want to cut each root back right to the base. Any green, white, silver roots or bumps are healthy. So leave those.

Honestly, with the way most of those roots look, I wouldn’t waste my time with soaking it. But no harm in trying it!
