# Hii, I just got my first bird of paradise plant! I really love it and…

Hii, I just got my first bird of paradise plant! I really love it and I wanna care for it as good as I can. I would love any and all tips!  
It’s standing quite close to an open window right now, but the window does open the other way so i dont thiiiink its too drafty. It should get a fair bit of light during the day.  
Anyway, I’m gonna be watching her like a hawk and would love your advice!

The grow light should provide enough light for her. Water when the soil is about 4-5 inches dry, but never go on a schedule. Good luck with your plant!!! \<3

Ooh thank you!! What do you mean by ”never go on a schedule”? Should I not follow plantas water reminders?

Yes, don’t water on a schedule (this goes for any plant, ESPECIALLY succulent and cacti). What I do with the watering schedule is I use it as a schedule to remind myself to check to see if the soil is dry.
