I'm not an expert on orchids but it will largely depend on how it is pottes right now; is it in the right medium, has it outgrown it's pot, is the substrate too wet and needs replacing, stuff like that

Personally I repot almost every plant I get, even if it's just back into it's original pot. The number of times that I have found elastics, foam or other things wrapped around a plant irritates me.

I just brought a money tree and I had a RUBBER BAND keeping it together in the soil. It was also buried 2 inches to deep AND planted in moss 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

can you provide a picture? always examine roots before repotting, but i'd recommend repotting all new plants if they're healthy, even if you don't size up. sometimes there's things in the soil or it's an improper medium

Orchids like to be a bit rootbound, so I only repot mine if the container (thin plastic) is cracking. Only do this if you use the thin clear orchid pots though, otherwise just repot when it expands when pulled out. In the wild, they grow in cracks of rocks and trees so repotting is much less necessary.
