Somehow struggling with google on this but hoping someone can help. I have two Christmas trees (not sure what kind, they were live in a pot on our doorstep this past Christmas and I planted them a few months later.) They were super dry and I wasn’t sure if they were dead but planted them anyway.

I’ve been tracking the progress and one has these little green bulbs seemingly growing from the end of each branch while the other one is not growing them (seems that they are there but are brown). Pictures below. Any clue what these are? I assume the one where they are green means it’s still growing?
Thanks!

The nubby green things look like baby pine cones.

Awesome! Possibly a spruce. Those nubs are buds where new needles will form. The brown are still dormant and the other has swollen buds that will or have already popped open. Both trees look alive and well from the pictures.
