It looks overwatered

I just watered it yesterday, the soil was pretty dry when I did water it. 🧐 how often should I be watering it?

Then it might be too dark then in the area where it is

Yes

Would a grow light help? It’s in an east facing window so it gets light half the day in the morning

A ponytail palm does not typically dry out that much in two weeks if it looked healthy when you bought it. Did it get too cold on the way home? That could be on reason for the discoloration on the leaves.

It was reallyyyy cold outside, like 0 degrees, when I brought it home so I wonder if that’s what did it

I would believe the cold damaged it. There were several posts in December where plants got frostbite on the 10 minutes ride home. They wilt almost immediately. Palm fronds will dry and eventually fall off. You can cut the dead parts.

Check the roots for rot. Frozen roots will turn to mush and attract insects like mealybugs and fungus gnats. Remove all dead roots. Rinse roots with hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria. Let the soil dry between watering. Keep in bright light. Fertilize with diluted fertilizer once a month in colder months. Good luck🍀🪴

palms are also notorious for spider mites, which might also be causing the discoloration of the leaves. look carefully and see if you see any webbing.

Needs better light or start with part sun slowly
