# So my aunt gave me a monstera deliciosa baby, but I was watching…

_Publié par Aly le 2024-08-27_

So my aunt gave me a monstera deliciosa baby, but I was watching about plant care and they said that if the plant is in a pot that’s too big it can cause root rot so I decided to repot her into a smaller pot, however when I took her out I noticed she didn’t have any roots so I looked it up online and propagation should be done in water so I washed her up and put her in a small cup. Are there any tips in making this work? I really don’t want her to die.

there is definitely truth to the large pot thing but it’s not so dire as it’s sometimes made out to be.

if you know your plant is in a pot that’s a bit too large, you just want to modify your watering. it’s ideal to water until it runs out of the drainage, but when your plant is in too big a pot, you want to water less — only as much as it needs. “little but often”

rot happens when there is more water than your plant can make use of, causing it to hang out in the soil and breed bacteria that rots your roots.

all that being said, this pot was huge in comparison to your plant so you were right to pop it back into water.
