# I lost a beautiful Queen of the Night that I grew from a stem given…

_Publié par Catherine le 2025-10-13_

I lost a beautiful Queen of the Night that I grew from a stem given to me years ago. I salvaged a few stems and this one is thriving. Is there anything more I can do to help it mature? I would also be interested in purchasing another one but can’t find one. Any suggestions where to look?

You can add rooting hormone powder or liquid to encourage root growth. Fertilize regularly in warm months.

Give bright indirect sunlight or partial shade. They are tree climbers in nature. So, the soil should have good air pockets. So, use a coco coir mix and lots of perlite or other aggregates. Avoid heavy dense oil and soil with peat moss. They dry slowly and hold too much water. They propagate well in both water and soil.

There are dozens of varieties of orchid cacti that fall under the classification Epiphyllum including the night blooming variety Epiphyllum Oxypetalum. Search online for Orchid cactus, Dutchman’s pipe, and Epiphyllum. Etsy has many for sale. Also check out Gabriella Plants.🪴🍀

They bloom when they get older and large enough. Keep them root bound. They don’t need a lot of soil.

You can force them to bloom when they get bigger. I typically hold off on watering at least 2 weeks. Then, water and fertilize afterwards. It shocks the plant into quickly blooming to produce seeds. My two blooms several times in the summer on their own.

Mine are very old and started from a leaf. The second sunstressed one are the cuttings from the first one in a recycled bucket.

You might want to try cutting off one your leaves allow it to callus and then plant it in the pot you have your parent plant in
