# This is my second dragon tree black knight. I have a hard time…

_Posted by Plant newbie on 2026-05-30_

This is my second dragon tree black knight. I have a hard time keeping it alive. I water it about twice a month and have it in indirect sunlight. Would appreciate any tips on how to revive it and care for it.

It’s wilting and a lot of leaves turn brown/yellow, droop, and fall off. The app tells me it’s under watered and also overwatered so I’m not sure which one it is.

Thanks!

Have you checked the roots?

Mine looked like this - not thriving but not dying - and all my research indicated it was in too big a pot. I repotted to a smaller pot yesterday, one about an inch bigger than the roots.

That pot is likely too big so the roots are staying wet too long. Mine almost completely dries out between waterings. If I put my finger in the soil it's pretty much totally dry I'll feel almost no no moisture. It will also let you know when it's thirsty. My leaves will start to droop if I go too long without watering. I would say let it get to that point a few times that way you can gauge how often you should actually be watering it. Ideally a couple days before it gets to that point.
