Just any advice

Good beginner advice really begins with what plants you’re looking to grow or are into since there’s different care that goes into each. Please let us know!

If you’re looking into indoor tropical plants - chunky soil and clear plastic pots have never failed me. For any indoor plants I would always make sure the pot is only an inch or two bigger than the root ball. Hope this helps!

I'd use that light meter to figure out your light situation in the areas you want plants. And then you can search on here by light requirements. Or just do some Google searches for bright or low light loving plants. If you only have like darker north facing windows you might look into lights, full spectrum is ideal and check the lumens and lux(color heat) to make sure it'll be good for your plant. Then go shopping. You might see if there is a nursery near you, or large plant store. And generally there's a worker that can help you find something you visvisually like, but can also meet the needs of.

Start with a pothos or spider plant in a 4” or 6” pot. Both are good for new plant owners. They are low maintenance if setup correctly from the beginning. Avoid repotting until spring, start of the growing season.

Get a grow light since the days are shorter this time of year. Most of the less expensive (\<$50) single plant lights need to be within 12” from the plant. Run the light 12 hours.

Water only when the soil is dry. Verify with a wooden skewer like checking if a cake is done. Dampness on the tester means the soil doesn’t need water just yet. Slowing growth in winter means the plant may need less water. Always check the soil.

Fertilize once a month or less with diluted fertilizer in winter. 🍀🪴
