# Hi ! So I went to a local plant nursery, while I was browsing plants…

_Postat av sam beqaj den 2024-10-15_

Hi ! So I went to a local plant nursery, while I was browsing plants we stumbled upon a coffee arabica plant. They workers had no idea they even had that there (as we live in Arizona), and said that they thought they stopped carrying it at the nursery a couple years ago. The soil was still super wet, so I’m assuming the system in place continued to water all the plants there. I guess I’m trying to see if I should transfer the plant into a bigger pot by a couple inches? I do want to implement volcanic rock \& organic fertilizer but I do want to have her completely dry out first. Any suggestions or care tips?

I don’t know a ton about care other than keep the soil moist and no direct sunlight. They like acidic soil! It will be hard to know if you can upsize pots until you repot it and look at the roots

Yes! I started only using distilled water in the humidifier \& it is supposed to rain here Friday so I’ll collect rainwater to give! As for the resizing I ended up going up 2.5 inches in diameter/width and the roots were wrapped all around, so I’m hoping it doesn’t create too much of a shock.

Oh you should be okay, sounds like it needed it. You may lose some leaves but it’s generally older/weaker leaves.

Did you treat this with an insecticidal soap or anything?

I carefully \& gently unwrapped a few roots, and did add some lava rock at the base of the pot for added porosity \& aeration. I also went with a ceramic pot with 3 drainage holes.

I have not! I’m still sort of new to the plant world, I have put in a few hours doing my research. Do you recommend that after bringing the plant home from where I got it from? If so, any recommendations on what brand?

Also, the app did say it was overwatered, so when I transferred to a new pot I haven’t watered her. Do you think that’s okay? Or should I at least water along the sides of where I added new soil?

Planta is a great guide for watering but I definitely wouldn’t recommend using it as hard fast guide. I would wait a day or two and see if any of the moisture from the old soil leeched into the new soil. If it’s doesn’t I would water at that two day mark.

Is your ceramic pot fully glazed, on the inside too? If not you probably will need to water more frequently because raw ceramic will dry out your soil like terracotta. If it is glazed ignore this.

I would highly recommend treating this with diluted neem oil or castille soap. It looks like it’s been munched on a bit and you just want to make sure you’re not bringing in any bugs from the nursery. Especially since it sounds like it may have been there a while? You can use a gentler insecticide especially if you haven’t seen any bugs. Most houseplant pests are really hard to spot though.

Plants can be more sensitive to light after treating. I use neem oil but it stinks.

I only treat when I’m seeing bugs or right after I bring them home

It’s not glazed on the inside :( it’s only glazed on the outside. So I will definitely keep that in mind! I’m going to get a moisture meter in the next couple days to deter that from happening.

I’ll get some neem oil! I don’t mind treating outside if it stinks and bringing her back in! I’m assuming there’s dilution instructions on the bottle? Thank you so much for your advice \& help Kades!

Yes it should tell you on the bottle or they make prediluted!
