I always take them off. Even if the roots can get out of the mesh, the soil inside the plug tends to stay wet too long on my opinion

I also take them off so the roots can breathe!

I’ve always regretted not taking them off when replanting. I got a few starters online recently and I obeyed their protocol to leave them alone, but most of them didn’t make it and I wear that was why.

I’ve taken them off, anytime I left it on my plant eventually got root rot
