# hi! can someone help me identify what type of my plant my new plant…

hi! can someone help me identify what type of my plant my new plant is?

also, one leaf has started to begin yellowing. im wondering if anyone has taken care of a plant like this before and would be open to give me any pointers?

It’s a philodendron birkin! Mine does super well in an east-facing window. I’m not sure I see the yellow you mentioned.

I tend to think overwatering with yellow leaves, although that’s not always the case. What kind of soil are you using? I added some perlite and orchid bark to mine to allow for easy drainage.

im not quite sure, i just got it two days ago from a farmer’s market! but this is helpful information :,)

It could be overwatering leading to root rot or an old leaf dying off. Check if it’s s as leaf lower on the stem which means it’s older. The plant will let a leaf die off to send energy to newer leaves. It’s a natural process.

Carefully remove the pot to check for signs of rot: saturated soil, dark mushy roots or a swampy scent of rot. Remove the rot with the soil, disinfect roots with a hydrogen peroxide rinse and replace with a well draining soil if it’s rot. 🪴🍀
