# Can anyone tell me what these brown splotches on my ficus…

_Publié par Adrian le 2024-09-01_

Can anyone tell me what these brown splotches on my ficus elastica/rubber plant mean? I just wanna double check that it’s not a sign of something like thrips, edema, or rust.

I’m new to this plant, and I believe they all arrived with this on the underside of their leaves, but only noticed it recently on my ficus elastica burgundy, which led me to checking the others and finding the same patterning on them all. Aside from it, they’ve all seemingly been healthy, and all opened new leaves within a week of bringing them home. Please let me know if it’s just a previous watering problem. Any help is very greatly appreciated ☺️.

I’m not sure how much sun your ficus are getting, but my ficus teneke twins get like that on the underside of their leaves when they’re a little sun stressed. Kinda when it’s borderline too much sun, but can still grow and not get sunburnt. It’s kinda hard for me to avoid since I’m pretty far up North (meaning in the summer there’s almost constant light). I haven’t found that it’s actually harmed the leaves overtime tho, so I personally leave it cause I don’t mind the look (since it stays on the underside)

Thank you for the quick response! They’re in the south windowsill, and two came from a well-known nursery in the area where they likely got plenty of sun. I’m hoping it’s something minor, but had to double check, since they were originally in a spot with half of my plant collection in one big shelving unit on my windowsill, so I can’t put them back in their spot until I’m sure they’re not gonna spread something to literally half of my plants 😬

That’s so fair, it’s much better to be safe rather than sorry. It’s much easier to quarantine two plants that might not need it than deal with a full on infestation
