# Quick question. If my potting soil has fertilizer beads already in it…

Quick question. If my potting soil has fertilizer beads already in it and claim to feed for 6 months, is it necessary to still use my liquid fertilizer? I use the miracle gro houseplant mix and the miracle gro succulent soil (NOT the palm citrus one. I’ve had too many gnats with that). The liquid is the miracle gro one where you squirt it in and done. Just wondering as this thought just popped in my head. 🤣

Miracle grow can burn plants if not diluted enough, I use to use this when I first started getting plants but lost some of them because of it . I recommend using a worm compost fertilizer like the brand We The Wild , it’s all just worm poop! lol, but it won’t burn your plants and can be used on top of the beads that you already have . There’s a powder and liquid kind . Since you already have some fertilizer in there I would use the powder version , or “enrich” supplement as they call it. But either way , since you already have those beads in the soil you don’t have to worry about giving it much extra depending on what kind of plant it is! Hope this helps :)

This definitely helps! And makes me wonder if that’s why I lost a couple like my marble pothos. The leaves kept yellowing and browning and the roots were super sad. With the powder, is it compatible with succulents and cacti as well? Thanks for the info!

worm castings are readily available in most hardware or farm stores and are my preferred fertilizer for succulents since it’s a gentle and nearly complete source of nutrients. you can mix a bit into your media, make a tea, or add a thin layer on top of the media and water it in

Thank you for the response! I will pick up some and try it out. Glad I learned something new today! 🙂
