# My Money Tree was thriving and then suddenly I noticed a mushy stem.…

_Gepostet von Angeleno 🪴🌻 am 2025-03-08_

My Money Tree was thriving and then suddenly I noticed a mushy stem. I took the plant apart and it seemed the bottom soil was giving root rot (despite being a self draining pot). I removed the mushy stem and then repotted it. Seemed like it was doing better, but now I noticed two other stems are getting mushy (I swear I’m not overwatering!!) should I remove the other two stems? There would be two good stems left. Any tips to save this baby?

I would just find a new pot. They could be over watered but if you don't think they are it could be that water is building up because of extended root mass. I would do a repot and as a last resort split them up to heal.

Are they taped together under the soil? Or have a foam wrapping? This can cause too much moisture leading to rot and need to be removed. I would unpot them, clean up any mushy roots, remove any mushy stems as they won't recover. And then spray down the roots and base with 1 part peroxide dilutied in 3 parts water. This will help kill any mold or fungus that could be contributing to the issue. Then repot in fresh, well draining soil.

There are two causes of trunk failure, dehydration and trunk rot. If the trunk is mushy then it's trunk rot. You will need to take it out of the pot and remove the mushy ones and repot the good onesin fresh soil. Be careful to remove any rotting tissue and you might want to treat the roots with a fungicide (a lot of the folks here in the planta community seem to treat theirs with peroxide. I've never done it but they seem to like this treatment.). Make sure the new soil is well draining to give it the best chance.
