# Hello ! I have a problem with my plant here. It has bloomed twice now…

_Publié par Tommy le 2025-09-19_

Hello ! I have a problem with my plant here. It has bloomed twice now the little flowers die off and I took all the dead ones off then it started to bloom again. Now it’s doing the same thing but this time there not coming back. Is it due to end of the season or is the plant sick? It is a Malia Neglecta or Dwarf Mallow also I know it’s over grown but if and when can I cut it back and how hard can I cut it back?
Thank You!

Can you tell me how hard should I cut it back?

Did you add liquid fertilizer.

Your Malva neglecta (Dwarf Mallow) is likely stopping blooms due to the coming end of its growing season, as it's a short-lived perennial. You can cut it back after its flowering has completely stopped to encourage more vigorous growth next season; you can cut it back to about 10 cm (4 inches) above the soil, or even down to the ground for a harder prune, out avoid cutting while it's still blooming.

Ty and you are fine

Is the plant sick or is it the end of the season?
• Likely end of season for the Dwarf Mallow, which is a short-lived perennial. Its natural life cycle involves blooming, after which it prepares for dormancy or the end of its growth period. a
• It's not necessarily sick, as it's normal for a plant to stop blooming and for flowers to die off after a period of flowering.

Yeah I think it’s the end of season

How is your plant doing.

It’s ok just looks a little sickly. I trimmed it back so right now I’m going to White oak nursery where I bought it and get something for it.

When and how to cut it back
• When to cut: You should only cut it back after the blooms have completely finished and no new flowers are appearing. Cutting back too early can discourage the plant from producing more blooms. o
• How to cut: You can cut back the entire plant to encourage a stronger return next season.
• A "hard prune" involves cutting the plant down to the soil line, or to about 10 cm (4 inches) above the ground. ®
• Use clean, sharp pruners or snips to make the cuts. o
• Why to cut: Deadheading is a key horticultural practice that removes spent blooms to encourage more new flowers, but for perennials, it also helps manage their growth and signals the end of their cycle for the season.

What to do after cutting
• Once it's cut back, you can treat the plant as you would a healthy perennial, providing it with proper watering and care to help it store energy for the next growing season. o
• If you want a more robust plant next season, you can also move it to a larger pot or the garden to relieve being "pot-bound," which can limit growth and flowering.

How often are u fertilizing it? Are u following the suggested instructions

#### Tommy ha respondido el 2025-09-21

Yes I’ve been doing what the instruction says. I think what might have happened is a week after I planted we had a wind storm and blew it over. So I replanted it and put a steak up with it. I just think I overwatered it and the roots just never took hold. I think that’s where the
Fungus started.

Darn storms. Best of luck to u!!
