I’ve had this snake plant for 7 months, got it from Walmart, and have only watered it once. I’m debating buying some succulent and cactus mix to repot the plant. It also doesn’t look like it has grown at all.

Thoughts, tips, advice from snake plant owners?

Snake plants survive without light, but if you want them to grow they need a fair bit of it. Have you fertilized at all? That may also help.

Since it holds so much moisture I’ve only fertilize it once, probably a few months ago. It has been by a window now for the past few months. I just know those stores drenched their plants with water so I’m wondering if a soil change would help the plant thrive.

definitely i’d repot but only changing the dirt you can even go a size down like amy said

Yeah, now that you say it the pot looks rather big. I think they like to be crowded and don’t take up moisture fast enough to dry out a large volume of soil quickly to keep the roots from getting soggy. You might size down and I’d even use a succulent mix supplemented with additional material like perlite to help with drainage.

I, too, have a large snake plant from Walmart. After about a year it finally decided to put out some new growth. I decided to repot it and found that it had almost no roots and the soil was holding too much moisture. I have no idea why it didn’t die!

I repotted with a good quality cactus mix and added some chunky things like bark, stratum, and charcoal. I also put it into a terracotta pot even though I live in a very dry climate. It seems to be doing very well now :)

When I noticed that my snake wasn’t growing, I moved it to a sunnier spot and then it started growing like crazy

The leaves of your snake plant won’t grow anymore since the tips have been broken off. Snake plants leaves grow from the tip, but it will put out new growth eventually! They’re slow growers
