# Hey! Was wondering what i should do. Not supposed to water my…

Hey!  
Was wondering what i should do. Not supposed to water my fishbone yet, but I checked the soil and it’s bone dry. Not even a hint of dampness.  
Should I water it early or leave it alone?  
I wasn’t sure since this is the first time I’ve owned a cactus.

Even if an app tells you not to water a plant just yet, the app doesn’t know if your plants soil is actually dry or not. That is a tropical cactus, if it was a desert cactus it could wait, but since it’s a tropical it needs more water as they grow in the treetops as an epiphyte. They get rainfall often but it drains away because they are in a tree.

Any plant app, is simply a suggestion, it can't know the conditions of your plant. It's why it's recommended to check the soil before you water too

Friendly tip, if your cactus’ roots aren’t much bigger than the plant, I would definitely put that into a smaller pot

I didn’t have any pots smaller than this one that weren’t under 3 inches (succulent pots). Thanks for the advice though!
