A little bit of mold started growing on the dirt for my houseplant. I’ve had it for years and not sure why this is happening now or how to avoid.

Plant seems to be okay. It’s sitting in the window so getting as much light as it can. There is drainage in the pot.

I added some extra soil recently so maybe that’s it?

Definitely could be. The fungus won’t hurt the plant, but you can try sprinkling cinnamon over the surface or watering with a mix of 25-50% peroxide and water

It could be , tbh most plants get mold when there isn’t enough sunlight or the soil stays wet too long . Just remove the parts that have the mold and add cinnamon on top to prevent it from happening again
