# I’m still learning here, so please be gentle but also feel free to…

I’m still learning here, so please be gentle but also feel free to correct anything I say.

I picked up this plant on a whim because they were on clearance. They’re labelled as a ‘colorful aglaonema’, which I haven’t taken care of yet! Others of this kind were slightly more pink-toned in the store, so I’m thinking they might be a ‘Sparkling Sarah’. Please correct me if I’m wrong!

What should I do to help give this plant the best chance at a glow-up?

General care guidelines?

Also, I got a new shelf for my birthday so I was thinking of putting this plant under a grow light, since it’s my only variegated plant so far and I’m fairly sure those usually need more light. Would that be recommendable?

Thanks in advance!

My aglaonema silver bays (or something? Not sure, their foliage is actually a bit confusing lol) are loving being on a shelf under even light from Barrina T5's. They do NOT like being too close to the lights, though, and don't want them on for more than 14 hours. You'll be able to tell what it likes/doesn't like; I find these plants to be surprisingly communicative about their needs lol

I've got 2 different aglanemea but the care is the same. Let them dry out almost all the way. They like a chunky soil (so many plants seem to like) and one is in an east facing window with no curtains and the other one in under a grow light. The silver bay in the east window seems to love it there. I turn it 1/2 way every time i water and its full and very happy. The other one isn't as happy but its good. One is in a plastic pot the other one is in terra.. So a chunky soil, a good amount of light. Water when almost dry. They will tell you its thirsty by drooping but try to water before it droops.

Thank you! This is all really practical advice 😁
