# I just got this baby Alocasia Gageana Aurea, but its root system…

I just got this baby Alocasia Gageana Aurea, but its root system looked like it had a rough night out. So, I put it in water to give it a spa day. How long can it chill in the water?

I've got lechoza pon arriving next week, but was wondering if my leafy friend can hang out in water until then. I've also got some LECA that I can use for now if I shouldn’t leave it in water for more that 24 hours.

Any recommendations? (Besides a root therapy session, of course!)

You can leave in water as long as you want. Actually I suggest leaving in water for a month before transferring to pon. I do this with all my plants, ESPECIALLY alocasias and it works like a charm. However semi hydro is a commitment, it takes a lot of learning and patience. I watched a trillion YouTube videos on it when I started last year. I have almost 115 plants in pon now. Well a mix of lechuza pon, perlite, and fluval stratum

Basically you want a lot of water roots to form before going into pon! It’s the only way to not go through a rough transition. Also once in pon get some hydroguard and superthrive to mix with your fertilizer
