# Planta says that it’s time to water my spider plant, it says to water…

Planta says that it’s time to water my spider plant, it says to water it until water flows out the drainage holes. But this pot doesn’t have any and I don’t have another pot for it, does anyone have any tips for watering in a drain-less pot? It’s 10x7 and around 7 inches deep if that helps

Did u check the soil to see if it needs to be watered? I would highly recommend getting that plant into a pot with drainage as soon as you can. The pot may be way too big for this plant as well. The dollar tree has amazing options right now and most of their pots have drainage holes. But before you even water check the soil. Dont completely rely on the app for watering, I use it as a reminder to check my plant to see if it needs to be watered. If not there’s a snooze button you can hit to get another reminder in 2 days or can snooze until next time

Thank you for the dollar tree recommendation, I’ll have to check it out. But the soil does seem to be dry

You’re so very welcome! The selection at the dollar tree has gotten so good over the last two years! I’m just guessing here but this plant looks like it should be in a 6 inch pot, check the root ball and go 1 to 2 inches larger in pot size then the rootball 🙂

spider plants are quite drought resistant, i don’t water mine until they show signs of thirst like droopy, blue-tinted leaves or slowed growth. i would recommend waiting as long as possible between waterings since your plant is in a pot with no drainage, and this can easily lead to root rot with improper watering. it’s important to get it into a pot with drainage holes soon so your plant can thrive. drainage holes allow deep waterings which encourage robust and healthy roots. since it has no drainage currently, when your plant shows signs of thirst, only pour enough water to lightly saturate the soil, and tip off any excess to prevent soggy roots and potentially root rot.

You should repot it as soon as possible since it will easily get root rot. If you can’t drill holes or repot your best bet is to get a skewer and stick it all the way to the bottom and only water if when you pull the skewer out after measuring it is bone-dry. Water then wait 15 minutes before turning it and pouring out excess water from the pot. When not watering stick skewer sticks into the soil and make holes to let the roots breathe. It’s a temporary solution.
