# This new shoot on my snake plant is about to bust through the plastic…

This new shoot on my snake plant is about to bust through the plastic liner pot. Should I just let it do its thing? I’m hesitant to repot the whole plant since the roots aren’t quite taking over this one yet.

Personally, I would wait cause like you mentioned, it doesn't really need a repot. That shoot might end up growing up instead of busting through. If I does bust through, at that point I would either snap it off and get another plant from it or go one size up. If you feel that the next size pot is too big, put some leca or something on the bottom so you use less soil and it would dry out properly and avoid rot

I agree! I’ll add that if it did bust through, you could wait until the soil dries out quite a bit. I’d remove the busted pot from around the plant, gently massage off some of the soil at the bottom, mix that soil with perlite (or cactus soil), and then pot it up into a soil mix that’s much less dense than what it’s already in. Then, it has more room without an added risk or root rot.

Based on my experience that green bit that pokes into the pot side looks like a start of a pup. Let it be and it will start growing upwards soon. It will stretch and deform the pot but it will reroute itself upwards. At least that’s what mine did. It did crack the pot eventually but by that time it also developed more roots.
