Just a question, if I have bamboo in water and rocks does it grow? Or does it need dirt to grow?

It will grow, you will just eventually need to add nutrients as water on its own can’t provide everything a plant needs. I use a hydroponic fertiliser for all my plants that grow in water. If you look up hydroponic fertilisers, there are many out there. Organic fertilisers usually aren’t suitable because they require the soil microbes etc to break down what is in the organic fertiliser to make the nutrients bioavailable to the plant.

I use Growth Technology Foliage Focus but there are many options out there. I follow the amount on the bottle. It can be used for soil plants too. If you are making a very small amount, it’s best to buy a small plastic syringe (1ml size is good) or a plastic pipette like you use in science class, so that you can measure out the exact quantity.
