Howdy, folks! Question for the community: I’m thinking of getting a dehumidifier for my apartment, but I’m unsure how that would affect my plants. My apt gets a bit too warm for my taste, but apparently the humidity levels in it are normal. That said, do you think a dehumidifier could negatively impact my plants? Grateful for any input.🙏🏼🪴🌵

It really depends on the types of plants you have really. Some already struggle with “normal” humidity so if you decrease it they may start having some issues

What is “normal” for your apartments humidity? Do you have a hygrometer to measure the ambient humidity?

I agree with Lena, it really depends on what type of plants you have. All of your plants have acclimated to their current growing conditions. You may need to adjust / increase your watering frequency if you use a dehumidifier to dry out the air.

That’s being said, most plants besides succulent types fair better in higher humidity, specifically tropicals.

Thank you, all! That is all great info to consider and research. I admit that when it comes to ‘optimal humidity levels for plants’ I’m still learning. So while I want to feel more comfortable temperature-wise in my apt, I also want my plants to be okay with it.😉

To answer your question Yin, the humidity in my apt is usually between 45% and 55%, which for where I live is considered “normal”.😉

Thanks again, y’all! I’ll look up what’s best for each of my individual plants’ needs.🙏🏼

The dehumidifier I have is for a large space and it puts out a lot of heat in its process. It's effective, though. Maybe it depends on which type you buy.

Sameeee the dehumidifier i have puts out heat. I use to use it at a house that was shaded by fruit trees and right by a french drain... so bog level humidity of 80s. I wouldn't think that 45-55% humidity would contribute that hard to your apartment warmth. That's about normal for winter here and it's freezing 😆. You might try circulating your air, either with some small fans, or i use my air filter as that sucker blows. The circulationwould be healthy for the plabts too. If you did pop in a dehumidifier, you could just mist the plants that prefer humid, but then you'd just be raising the humidity again.
