# This might be a dumb question, but when the Planta app tells me to…

This might be a dumb question, but when the Planta app tells me to fertilize…. I’ve just been squirting this in the soil. Am I supposed to be watering AND fertilizing?

I’ve only been watering when it says “water.”  
Thanks for helping a newbie.

I’d say just follow the instructions on the fertilizer- I have the same succulent fertilizer, and it says you can just squirt it in without water. You could also mix with water, but mine have been fine with just a pump, no water! If you ever get a new fertilizer though, or if the general fertilizer says something different, I’d follow those instructions.

I fertilize my plants every other watering in the spring and summer time and I mix the fertilizer in with the water

I changed everything to "stick fertilizer" because the "liquid fertilizer" was screwing up watering schedule. If the fertilizer says just squirted in, that should be fine. If you water heavily after you squirted on, it's just going to wash right out the bottom.

The app considers it to be watering the plant. It says to mix with water and then water the plant. And if you look at your watering schedule you will see that it counts it as a watering.

I would water and fertilize at the same time as long as the top soil is dry. If it’s still wet, just use the fertilizer.
