My plants do better with misting, but it is most obvious with a humidifier rather than a few squirts from a spray bottle. It improves the air quality in my apartment noticeably as well.

Seconding this! I do both and see massive improvements

I’ve heard different answer too. Most ive seen says it’s a waste of time. Better to put your plant on a stone tray with water, or to get a humidifier

Depends on your humidity where you live, where I’m at it’s 80% in the winter and typically around 90% the rest of the year (not sure about summer, I’ll have to check) and I never mist. My plants are doing great despite that, such as my prayer and spider plants! Though, I will take them into the bathroom when I take showers to enjoy the humidity there occasionally (I also just started doing this last week), but misting just always gave mine droopy leaves for some reason!

I’ve stopped misting and used a humidifier. I have alocasias that were damaged by misting even though I was using distilled water bottles. Either use a humidifier or put a tray of pebbles with water under your plant. I’ve also put a bowl if water next to some of mine.

i didnt consider the damage like that. ive been seeing some damage spots to my plants when theres no real explanation so maybe thats why

Yeah. A friend and one of the admins here told me the misting could hurt plants especially new leaves. I didn’t know that til someone told me. :)

Humidifier all the way. This actually increases humidity around your plants. Most of my plants are also grouped together to maintain good levels

I haven’t had misting hurt any of my plants. Others will have a different opinion. I don’t mist often, maybe once or twice a week. And it’s only to humidity loving plants like ferns, crotons, and peperomias.

I think it depends on your climate and your collection of plants. Some areas have low humidity and need the extra moisture. However not all plants like water on their leaves, alocasias especially. This is what mine looked like when I was misting directly. A humidifier is best if you need to increase humidity.

I mist my ferns and parlor palm, the rest get a humidifier

To be honest it depends on a multitude of factors but personally misting will not increase your plants ambient humidity, plants are usually put in big open spaces where that humidity can escape.

Constant misting will often result in fungal/bacterial infections, this is due to poor air circulation and not enough light to help evaporate the droplets, another issue with misting is that the water droplets are big meaning it takes longer for them to evaporate, this is why humidifiers are generally safer as they produce micro droplets that evaporate really quick and import general ambient humidity, it’s still important to good air flow tho.

I also hold that same view points about pebble trays as it’s not going to increase that ambient humidity in large open spaces, it also creates a breeding ground for fungal gnats and other moulds, so in my opinion humidifiers are the way to go. :)
