When preparing to water my monstera, I did a quick inspection of the back side and noticed discoloration. I’m not sure what it is, so I’m bringing it to you guys. My husband says it could be because the plant is getting older. But what do you guys think?

It is just age and a catch-all for debris and dust! If you use a leaf shine spray you can clean it good with a cotton swab!
