Fairly new plant parent here!

This wee beauty has grown a lot over the last few months and is now 10 inches tall!

It’s still in the 3 inch pot that I bought it in as a wee 3 inch plant. Should I be repotting it into something bigger?

I can see a small amount of roots wrapping round but not much.

It looks great! It doesn’t look like it’s suffering from overgrown roots or any other issues. It’s growing well. So, you can repot to a 4 inch or 5 inch diameter pot. The roots are thin. Avoid disturbing the roots during the repotting. 🍀🪴

I’d be surprised if just a couple stalks are producing enough roots to be an issue. You might want to consider chopping and propping, which is very easy for these guys.

You’ve probably noticed that the stalks are more fragile than you might expect given their thickness; this is because tradescantia spreads naturally by crawling, having stalks break, and then those stalks rooting to grow their own plants. You don’t even need to put these in water to propagate. Just cut a section with two nodes, remove the leaves from the lower node, and stick that piece right back into the pot so the lower node is covered. The stem you cut will keep growing and may even branch for a fuller plant, and the piece you stuck in the pot should start growing in 2-4 weeks.

Just as an example, this 8” basket started as two cuttings early this year. You can definitely keep growing it long, but if you ever feel like it’s looking leggy or bare you just cut it back and it’ll come in fuller.
